Our point in posting this is that amid all the tired, tiresome and well-rehearsed rhetoric by adults about this controversy -- we name no names -- there is an actual human being who is a...child...so just an opportunity to listen more than talk for once, maybe.

Yea, women are tired too of being relegated to 3rd class in our society because mentally ill men are being coddled by people like you.

What about the other children -- females -- who are harmed both on the track and in the locker rooms? And to mutilate a child's body, feeding that child hormones and hormone blockers -- that's child abuse.

Results and bottom line: “I don’t have the answer, but I’m going through the same process as many other people,” Mr. Yapo said. “But being a decent human is more important.” https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/01/us/trans-athlete-california-track-meet.html

Memo to the mob from her mom: “It is most heartbreaking that it is not her fellow competitors (who are) the ones attacking her,” wrote Nereyda Hernandez, AB’s mother, in a statement provided by TransFamily Support Services. “In fact, many of them have shown respect and sportsmanship. The hostility is coming from adults, grown men and women who have been influenced by a failed teacher and an uneducated politician.”https://www.sfchronicle.com/sports/high-school/article/california-trans-athlete-ab-hernandez-state-20354197.php

Wait, why are you ok with even ONE female athlete being knocked out of competition by a male who wants to pretend to be a girl? That's misogynist! It's a small enough world for girls' sports. It's exceptionally cruel that some boys seek to colonize even that tiny bit of terrain that girls occupy. Humans cannot change sex. It's never been done. But a lot of people have fooled themselves on this. And you're incorrect about 'no performance difference.' There's HUGE performance difference, and even boys taking estrogen outperform girls. See this video from a professor of sports medicine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8LZaOICIMY

Oh God, what will happen if another girl gets a green ribbon instead of a blue in this globally important event? At least this one will have been shamed by the mob and sent off to be locked in her room as she deserves. The cruelty is the point.

The cruelty to GIRLS is the point. Progressive misogyny of telling women to shut up and let confused boys and men into their spaces is still just...misogyny. Look how fast you mentally moved to taking up the cause of a boy in girls' sports, beating girls in their own competition, and in doing so, you are standing against girls. Sit with that for a moment. Ask why girls are being told to accommodate boys in their sports, and why is that in any way fair to girls? One can criticize misogyny from progressive ranks without having run into the arms of the Right. The fact that both sides are misogynist to women and girls only shows just how much misogyny is happening these days.

I'm not taking any position about boys in girls sports or girls in boys sports or anything else. My point is that the president of the united states is bullying and threatening a child and you and your Trump-adjacent pals are screaming encouragement from the sidelines. When my grandchildren ask me what I did to stop fascism, I'll say I spoke up against it - what will you say -- oh I shamed a 16-year old child and bullied her back into being locked in her room...you must be so proud of yourself...

I will be able to say I went to the frontlines to fight for the rights of women and girls because both parties decided to decimate them. I am concerned about erasing women and girls from having dignity and human rights, as it is a swift route to silence half the population from participation in public life, making is so much easier to impose an authoritarian agenda. Worked for the Taliban. You? Making online posts from the safety of Santa Barbara, criticizing women defending our rights, calling us adjacent-Trump supporters. You’ve moved in the camp of silencing women and girls. When did misogyny become your values? I remember a man I called in 2012 to host a non-partisan debate for the California Senate, who did a brilliant job. A man who used to be unafraid to criticize his own party when they went off message. That guy was a solid journalist, and because he was able to rise above partisan fray and level criticism where it was warranted, on all sides, I admired him deeply. I don’t support bullying or hurting others. But I really really really am tired of women and girls being told to ‘be nice’ and accommodate men and boys who declare themselves female to enter female sports, prisons, spaces, and take the few spots women and girls get to occupy. It’s such an old trope. We ought be more evolved than this.

Wait, is this really you? I don't buy it. I still think I'm talking to that guy who was willing to look at my op-ed defending Democratic Women of Santa Barbara County from the misogyny of Daraka blaming them for Das losing his election.

I've had great conversations with you, considered you one of my most important political mentors. You'd call it straight, every time. For years, I, along with many others, considered you the most reasonable guy in this town on politics, who could always be counted on to be the most sensible journalist in the room. Relied on to dig for the truth. And as such, you could cast a well-seasoned eye on partisan hyperbole, and confront it, undaunted.

It's one of my favorite qualities of yours.

You did a whole TV show series on this, for years, that this substack is named for, and I loved it.

I still think you're that guy, though clearly we're not going to agree there is a real conflict with the rights of women and girls going on.

You can throw mud on me, and watch me shake it off. I know who I am, and I still carry respect for you, because I saw that guy in action, for so long. It's him I'm trying to reach.

Dems didn't used to be so welcoming to misogyny. You won't answer me on this, deflecting to personal attacks on my journey through street activism to community activism to national and internationally standing for the rights of women and girls.

That speaks volumes.

After 72 years of life, you'd think I'd be used to male bullying, something that nearly all women endure. Females are now raped in prison, the most vulnerable population. Children are demanding that their bodies be mutilated and sterilized during a period of childhood, pre-adolescence, when one's emotions naturally run high and akilter. Girls who were once called tomboys are now counseled to reject their biological sex. Same with effeminate boys. Many among that group would later mature to recognize that rather than be in the "wrong body," they are gay or Lesbian. There are two issues here: the mutilation and sterilization of children. And, the bullying, silencing, and imposition of males into female space. This is an absolutely feminist issue if ever there were one.

And the #1 male bully is your hero, Donald J. Trump, who has nothing better to do than aim vicious threats at a 16-year old child, as you assent and continue to enable his authoritarianism project.

To be pro-female is not to be homophobic. Title IX was signed into law 53 years ago to extend educational civil rights to girls. Today, that historic bill is being demolished on the basis of false science, ideology, and call the beast what it is: mysogyny. Yet again, the female human is sacrificed at the altar of the male ego.

Perhaps trans athletes should have their own division? No one is banning trans athletes from competing in sports Jerry, just from competing against women. It took decades for women to have their own sports division and it is unfair for girls to have to compete against biological male athletes.

The same activism that created a safe space for women in sports should put their energies towards creating the same opportunities for trans athletes.

Jerry Roberts, you are clearly an embarrassment to our community in your crass, disgraceful and pathetic attempt at journalism. Your biased, grandstanding and never ending whining about anything Trump or conservative is really a symptom of a greater pathology.
