On this week's Newsmakers TV episode, the Indy's Callie Fausey and Christina McDermott join Noozhawk star Josh Molina and the genial host for a fast-moving conversation about SB local news
It's a serious question: when, exactly, were hese glorious "times past" when there was no crime in Santa Barbara, when exactly did they pass, and what is your not very-not-subtle eugenics theory of why times changed? Feel free to include any, you know, Actual Facts, for murder rate increasing 5X as well...
so you acknowledge you were, characteristically, spouting hot air about SB murder rates. Here's something that's changed since you were in your 40's in 1950: 5 million guns in California; today 40 million guns.
Congressional Candidate Bob Smith is much more than “credible” and “moderate”, he is remarkable! Bob Smith will deliver to our County what we need: inclusive representation, leadership, more high paying jobs, affordable ownership housing, and vision aimed at positioning us for the challenges ahead. The status quo isn’t working for most of us. I’ve not known any candidate of Bob Smith’s high calibre, smarts, experience, fiscal knowledge, and network in my 45 years politically involved in South County, Sacramento and D.C. Common name, exceptional candidate.
Join the collaborative effort of registered Democrats, Republicans, No Party Preference; young, old, workers, retirees and students to get Bob Smith elected to Congress. Together we can and will get Bob elected for needed results to improve lives within our community.
Thomas Jefferson famously said "The most valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do," a useful rule for writers that you, Denice, have turned on its head once again with a comment that is twice as long as the original item: Never use one word when two will do?
Good stuff. Kate Ford for city council:) Love when local folks become armchair macro economists. I’m sure the declining sales tax (even less than last year) has nothing to do with the 300% increase in vacancy rates or the fact that we traded Saks for tatoo parlors. We are racing to the bottom and other than the binary/tiny cars v no cars I’m hearing crickets Re: VISION…
Good stuff—Kate Ford for SB City Council:) Must be the macro-economy that had our Sales Tax revenues $2M less than projected (and less than last year) not the dismal state of downtown, the fact that vacancy rates are up 300% or the fact that we traded Sacs for tattoo parlors. I’m no Peter Rupert’s so perhaps I’m wrong but I don’t think so :)
Well, what can we say about knife fighting on State Street?
It didn’t used to happen.
The local murder rate has gone up 5x from years past.
What could be causing all this brazen crime and lawlessness?
which "times past" are those, Tom, your boyhood in the 19th Century?
Thomas says: Mr Roberts is dodging the question.

Yes well according to liberal grok, murder rates in 1950 CA were 1.7 murders per 100k.
Today in 2025 CA it’s 7.1 murders per 100k. A 600% increase.., for unknown reasons.
Gee I really wonder what could be causing this 600% increase in CA murder rates.. let’s think.. what has changed in the last 75 years?
Maybe it was too many Christians ?

au contraire...better to make a strong point succinctly then droning on with same old fox news talking points...
Testing your reading comprehension capacity Jerry. The more words, the better for those with tunnel vision.

He certainly knows his data and he takes criticism like a gentleman.
