Watch: SB Judge, Lite Gov Counter Sable's Latest Sneak Move, that 8-Story Mission Monstrosity Returns, Heartbreak at DP
Nick Welsh untangles the Sable Offshore oil saga, Josh Molina explains why that blockbuster near the Mission won't go away and Ryan Cruz reprises the heartbreak of three young lives ended by tragedy
Sable Offshore Corp. in a Trump-like display of contempt for the rule of law, ten days ago peremptorily announced it has resumed oil production in the waters off Santa Barbara. As an add-on of cruelty, the shifty, Texas-based oil company did so on the 10th anniversary of the disastrous Refugio spill that shut down such operations.
On this week’s episode of Newsmakers TV, Nick Welsh reports that Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis and Superior Court Judge Thomas Anderle leaped into the breach to slow down, if not stop, the company’s characteristically arrogant and disdainful behavior, further entangling the legal and political knot that has ensnared Sable’s efforts to start pumping oil through a disputed onshore pipeline.
Resurfacing another conflict shaped by out-of-town economic forces trying to despoil Santa Barbara, Josh Molina has the latest on the bid by an Orange County developer to construct an eight-story apartment monstrosity adjoining the Mission, using the asinine “builder’s remedy” refuge created by Sacramento’s build-baby-build seizure of local government control over planning and permits.
Ryan P. Cruz, a proud alum of Dos Pueblos High School, recounts the outpouring of grief at a heartbreaking public service in honor of three young students recently killed in a harrowing accident on Highway 1, with a salute to principal Bill Woodard for his leadership and sensitivity at a time when the school has been wracked by horror.
Plus: a new shopping and dining hot spot in Carp, a look back at the century-old earthquake that reshaped Santa Barbara and all the latest from the local pizza and donut beat.
All this and more, right here, right now on Newsmakers TV.

It’s Judge Thomas Anderle, not Joseph. He is named correctly in the video, but incorrectly in the text.
